ShakaRa is the son of renowned community activist Bro. Ldr. Mbandaka and is an experienced multi-faceted performer, writer & workshop facilitator.

He has been a revelation in the spoken word scene since his emergence at the end of 2003, and has become well known for his ability to address everyday issues in an exciting, challenging, and uncompromising way, that is both is both inspirational and informative.

ShakaRa is a proud member of the Best Kept Secret Spoken Word Collective alongside AmeN NoiR, OneNess & TuggSTAR. BKS specialise in the art of Spoken Word Theatre; writing directing & performing in a number of Theatrical Productions including "Gangland" and the Cochrane Theatre sellout hit Tuggstar For President.

In 2006, he founded MOSIAH STORM - The Black Music Revolution in Progress; an edutainment event dedicated to The Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey. Today, Mosiah Storm stands as the most prominent Black Power music event in the UK, a testament to his efforts as main organiser and host.

As a journalist, he has been a regular contributor to The Whirlwind Newspaper since 2005, providing commentary & reportage on youth culture, current events, artistic reviews and world affairs. He has written for various publications including The Final Call and has been a regular contributor to Voice Of Africa Radio flags ship shows “Africa Speaks” & “Straight Talk”. Now he hosts Afrika Speaks with Alkebu-Lan on Galaxy Radio & the Words & Riddims Show on Mystic Radio alongside Chantel'e Marie.

In 2013 ShakaRa joined the team for The British Blacklist, the online magazine & database for Black British talent. The weekly “ShakaRa Speaks On It” column, sheds light on many aspects of the Black art & literature past present & future.

Black History Month 2016 saw the launch of "RISE OF THE GRIOTS" -  a Spoken Word Monthly merging lyric with prose, featuring not only poets, but scholars & activists delivering presentations on a range themes, historic, present & future.

ShakaRa is not only a talented writer, but a purposeful one. A feature which has very much contributed to his fast growing reputation.
